Hi everyone!
I've been away for a few years due to personal reasons, but I am back and on my way to being recertified!
I've returned to private practice (in quebec) after about 5 years, so the rules for CNESST/SAAQ have also changed a bit.
How do you manage if you have CNESST/SAAQ patients with neuropathic pain while also treating the physical/musculoskeletal conditions, within the treatments/payments provided? Do we need to request for an additional contract separate from the physical treatments in order to treat the neuropathic pain (1hr sessions, etc)?
If so, is there a specific process?
Thanks for any information that can be provided

Hi Nandhra
My english speaking is better than my writing. You can call me. Nothing really change since last 3-5years.We are use to see people from the CNESST, SAAQ. Depend of the situation we can Ask for a contract with both organisation.Actually,is a little bit longer with the COVID to receive and answer. For a contract, you have to negociate directly with the consellor. Hope it will help you
Sophie
Thank you Sophie, I will contact each consellor. For my SAAQ patient I left messages and even wrote it in the report, but still no answer! It is a little frustrating. If the consellors require more information, is there a particular document that we can send that will give them a snapshot of the method and it's benefits? Unsure if there is already one made that I can use or if I need to create a new one.
Thanks,
Usually I speak with them. We also prepare a small resume ( in franchement)of the fonctionnal goal we want to reach with the method. I refere them also to neuropain.ch. Few years ago i also present the method to the agent and consellor, it was very heplful.Maybe Pavly Mehani can help you with the document you need.He work more in english than me. Good luck
Thank you!
Hi,
I've been out of the "game" for a while too with CNESST and SAAQ, so I'm not familiar with any changes that happened. Sophie says there hasn't. I work at Veterans Affairs, and I know that for us treating a neuropathic condition has to be directly linked to the medical condition for which a veteran is pensioned.
I suggest that you inform the treating doctor of your findings (which cutaneous branch is affected, and whether it's a somesthetic condition (Stage I), or neuropathic condition (Stages II-V), as it may be added as a second medical diagnosis or a consequence of the primary diagnosis, or even a replacement of the initial diagnosis!
I imagine Insurance companies such as the CNESST/SAAQ and private ones depend on the diagnosis being treated as it can have monetary implications in the long run for the client.
And as Sophie was suggesting, get in touch with the agent or counsellor, and explain your findings, provide documentation to both the doctor and the agent, and even better if you have the client on-board. He/she can push the agent to have the treatment.
Hope the info is helpful.
Pavly
Yes it is Pavly, thank you!
Hi Nandrha,
I'll try to write in english... I recommand you to speak with the consellor. First, it's important to share the method ( majority of CNESST/SAAQ consellors don't know about it or they don't know the functionnal benefits of this method). Second, if we are lot of therapists who ask for contract to use this method, I hope they will consider our demands and accept more neuropathic pain treatment. Third, they need to know that the neuropathic pain treatments can be long and neuropathic pain can explain why it is longuer than usual to heal the medical condition after their accident.
Recently, I have also a long delay before I speak to the SAAQ/CNESST consellor. Personnaly, I start the evaluation and treatment of the neuropathic condition before I speak to the conseillor, as a modality of regular treatment (for sure if it is related to the diagnostic of reference). Sometimes, I succed to have contract for neuropathic pain treatment, and sometimes not. Even if I don't have special contract, I continu to use the method as a modality in the regular treatment.
So good luck !
Hi Veronik,
How do you do the method with 20min sessions? Your clinic manager is ok with you booking 1hr sessions but cnesst only paying the regular session? (And blocking ur schedule)?
When the consellor does accept the contract, what do they usually offer in terms of payment/sessions etc?
Thanks,
- Amandeep
Hi Nandhra,
we give 30 to 45 minutes per session with our CNESST clients and 60 minutes sessions for most of the SAAQ client.
I'm lucky because I have a very good boss (she cares more about the patient than about the money). So I can do 45 minutes to 60 minutes for all my neuropathic pain patients. For sure, she prefer when I have a contract. I'm not sure about the exact amount they pay my clinic but it's around 82$ per hour for the CNESST. They don't give a lot of sessions, so I see these clients every 2 or 3 weeks for the evaluation of the condition. For the SAAQ, they give us some additionnal block. But when it's finish, they stop the treatmeat. I gave the patient all the informations so he can continu at home by himself, and I'm avalable for asking hid questions or to see him in private. Saddly, most of patients stop treatments when SAAQ stop paying...
Im awaiting some doctors prescriptions for OT/the method so i can be in the file to advocate with the agents.
Fingers crossed.
Thanks!
