Do you think this somatosensory training could help in this big area

In advance sorry for my English. I haven't writen Englich for a long long time.

A patient of mine has a (for Europe I think) a rare conditon, so i hope you are able to help me on the way.

information about the patient;

woman 43 years,
in 2013 she was shot by a confused man of 80 years old
1 shot went beside her but the second shot was in her right leg. If she dindn't lift up her leg it was in her belly.
The bullet enterd the trochanter and came out at the pubic bone.
The perpetrator was fined 300 euro and had to work 20 hours in a thrift store.....

she went to the miletary hospital in Doorn for rehabilitation, but they couldn't help her futher.
The bullet missed the main artery bij 0,5 cm did not enter the bone but the lymfatic vains ware hit
hot wheather makes the pain en swelling go up in the leg.
it feels like a lump. she self thinks it is "moisture" that doesn't run good through her leg.
is is more tensed then the left leg
the right leg gives a lot of shooting pains, but also a numbness at the trochanter and a poignant feeling in the hamstring area.

she went to a psychosomatic physiotherapy and dry needling but this all dindn't help her.

she also attempted massages like lomi massage it helps a bit.
since she did EMDR the focus on the pain is less but still there (=>better awearness of the body).
for a few years she now lives in Kortenhoef (this is the place i work in)

Operation?
in 2013 removing the bullet she said; i think they didn't hit the bone but did hit a skin nerve

pregnancy was difficult after a operation on the uterus but in 2018 she gave birth to a child he is now 2

medication? None
Hart/lung problems? No

At this day is haven't mapped the area of numbness and poignant feelings.
Do you think this somatosensory training could help in this big area? Or is it that after a bullet wound there is to much damage?

She and her husband are willing to try everthing.
hope you have all the information you may need and can help me.

  • Hello,

even if this kind of situation is rare in Europe (shooting injuries), I think we need to treat it like all others peripherical lesion.

Mapping the hypoesthesia (if it only a hypoesthesia otherwise the allodynia) can be the good start. Try to stay focus with the nerves mapping (use the atlas 4e edition for that).

Because a bullet can get in but also get out when you are shot, we can have multiple periphical lesions depending which nerves territories were hit.

Map that and don't do more then 3 nerves territories in the same time (too much reeducation exercices otherwise).

good luck with your treatment and come back if you need more advices ^^

  • Thank You. For youre answer. I Will Hove it A Good try/start with the treatment
